About Anima Brass:
Anima Brass is a dynamic quintet of brass musicians dedicated to reinvigorating chamber music as an artistic medium. With an active focus on new music, future performances include premieres of works written specifically for the ensemble, often exploring newly broken ground for brass instruments including electronics and extended techniques.
The group’s name, “Anima” (ah’-knee-mah), comes from early philosophical texts where its literal meaning of “breath” is the element that makes things alive, just as breath creates sound in brass instruments.
Anima has roots at Stony Brook University’s Department of Music, where members of the graduate program wanted to form an ensemble to bring contemporary and innovative brass music to New York’s Long Island communities and abroad.
