Group Bio:

Anima Brass is a dynamic quintet of musicians dedicated to the world of brass chamber music. With an active focus on expanding the repertoire, future performances include premieres of works written specifically for the ensemble, often exploring newly broken ground for brass music.
The group’s name, “Anima,” comes from Ancient Greek philosophical texts referring to the life giving “breath,” just as the breath which creates sound and brings life to our instruments. Anima has roots at Stony Brook University’s Department of Music, where members of the graduate program formed this ensemble to bring contemporary and innovative brass music to New York’s Long Island communities and abroad.
Anima Brass was the 2016 Aspen Music Festival and School Fellowship Brass Quintet, where they studied extensively with the American Brass Quintet. In April 2017, they were the runners-up for the prestigious Ackerman Chamber Music Competition. Currently, they are working closely with composers on new music, including Alan Hanker’s new work, “Oasis.” For a list of recently commissioned music by Anima Brass, please visit
